Caterpillar cat

Caterpillar cat (cropped)

This is a tiny 4″x4″ painting of a caterpillar with a cat head and tail.

I had ordered a block of these little canvases and had this idea to do a series of paintings of caterpillars with them. I spent an entire weekend looking up creative commons photos of caterpillars and photoshopping them into square compositions. After I had over a dozen images of caterpillars crawling horizontally along the lower third of their square backdrops, I decided that caterpillars were boring and I didn’t want to paint them anymore.

Not wanting all my work to go to waste, I added a cat head to one and deemed it amusing enough to paint.

It lacks whiskers because I forgot to add them. After I noticed they didn’t exist, I thought about adding them for a while and decided they would point the wrong direction and ruin the symmetry – so no whiskers for this caterpillar cat! Don’t worry, it crawls too slowly to bump into things anyways.

Spookyraven manor, a spooky manor

Every year for the past few years, I have participated in the fan-art calendar for the online game, The Kingdom of Loathing. This year, I have drawn Spookyraven manor, the haunted house on the right side of the tracks of Seaside Town.

I tried messing around with the perspective to make it look spoooky, but it still looks pretty static. I could never be an animator.

Comic-Con a week away

It’s Christmas in July, or, time for the one convention I go to each year: Comic-Con San Diego! The sea air will be less of a draw this year now that I’ve moved to the coast and breath it daily, but there’s still a lot of spectacle to behold. Too much candy! That’s the phrase I use for anything packed to the gills with awesomeness. Comic-con is gill-packed with candy.

I’ll mostly be moseying about being shy but I’ll also be sketching at the Cartoon Art Museum Sketch-A-Thon, Table #1930, Saturday at noon. Come visit me instead of eating lunch!

Always the late adopter

Since the mass exodusing/Russianification/spamification of LiveJournal, I haven’t been blogging much. A half-hearted post here, a tweet there, etc, etc. And so, I have finally buckled down and set up a WordPress blog.

Right now, I have some of my old comics up on the site and that’s about it. I’ll probably add a gallery at some point.

I also need to elongate my oar fish title as I have grossly misjudged the desired aspect ratio of my header.

I also have also turned off comments because I don’t want to deal with spam/SQL injection attempts right now. You can contact me at gmail if you don’t have some other regular way to get a hold of me, username lierne.

Ta!
